Rudraksha is not just a bead — it is traditionally regarded as a sacred spiritual companion that absorbs your energy and remains with you through your journey. Just like anything natural and organic, Rudraksha also requires proper care and maintenance to preserve its quality, longevity, appearance, and energetic balance.
At RudrasAnsh, all our Rudraksha beads are natural, organic, and chemically untreated. Because of this, periodic cleaning and oiling become important to maintain the bead properly over the years.
This guide explains the recommended traditional method to clean and maintain your Rudraksha safely at home.
Over time, Rudraksha beads may collect:
Dust
Sweat
Natural body oils
Pollution particles
Dirt within the mukhi lines and grooves
If not maintained properly, the bead may:
Become excessively dry
Develop surface dullness
Accumulate dirt within the lines
Lose its natural texture over time
Proper maintenance helps:
Preserve the bead’s natural structure
Maintain moisture balance
Keep the mukhi lines clean
Support longevity of the Rudraksha
Maintain a clean and sattvic spiritual practice
Before cleaning under running water, soak the Rudraksha bead in slightly warm water for a few hours.
This helps:
Loosen dirt stuck inside the tiny grooves and mukhi lines
Remove impurities trapped within the natural pores of the Rudraksha
Make the cleaning process easier and more effective
Avoid using extremely hot water.
The water should only be mildly warm.
After soaking, gently clean the Rudraksha under normal running water.
Using the soft toothbrush provided with your RudrasAnsh parcel:
Gently brush the surface
Carefully clean between the mukhi lines
Remove accumulated dust or dirt particles
Do not scrub aggressively.
The purpose is only to clean the surface naturally without damaging the bead.
After initial cleaning, place the Rudraksha in:
Gangajal (Ganga water)
and
Gau Mutra (Cow Urine)
Allow the Rudraksha to soak for approximately 24 hours.
This process is traditionally followed for purification and cleansing purposes.
After 24 hours:
Remove the Rudraksha from the liquid
Gently wipe excess moisture if needed
Keep it in an open space for natural air drying
Avoid:
Direct harsh sunlight
Hair dryers
Artificial heating methods
Allow the Rudraksha to dry naturally until it is approximately 80% dry.
The bead should remain slightly moist before oil application.
Once the Rudraksha is around 80% dry:
Take the specially curated RudrasAnsh Rudraksha Oil Blend and apply a generous amount using the soft toothbrush provided with your parcel.

While applying:
Coat the bead evenly
Ensure oil reaches the mukhi lines and inner grooves
Apply gently without excessive pressure
Our RudrasAnsh oil blend is specifically curated to help:
Nourish the Rudraksha naturally
Prevent excessive dryness
Maintain the bead’s natural texture
Support long-term preservation of organic Rudraksha
After oil application:
Keep the Rudraksha aside for a few hours
Allow the bead to naturally absorb the oil
This helps restore moisture balance within the Rudraksha.
Once done, the Rudraksha is ready to wear again.
Before wearing your Rudraksha again, it is traditionally recommended to chant:
or
The specific mantra associated with your Rudraksha Mukhi.
This is traditionally done with devotion and gratitude before re-wearing the bead.
Maintenance frequency may vary depending on:
Climate
Usage
Sweat exposure
Lifestyle
Generally:
Light cleaning can be done periodically
Deep maintenance and oiling can be done every few months or whenever the bead feels excessively dry
Chemical cleaners
Soap or detergent
Perfumes directly on the bead
Excessive heat exposure
Artificial polishing chemicals
Store in a clean and dry place
Handle respectfully
Maintain periodic oiling
Keep the bead naturally moisturized
At RudrasAnsh, we believe Rudraksha should remain in its most natural and organic form. Unlike chemically treated or artificially polished beads available in the market, natural Rudraksha requires authentic care and proper maintenance.
With proper handling, cleaning, and nourishment, a Rudraksha can remain with you for years and even generations.
